Windows 10 Anniversary Update requires our driver v8.0 or above. The latest driver can be downloaded from our website.
Note: When upgrading to Windows 10 Anniversary Update from a previous version of Windows, you will be notified that the DisplayLink driver will be uninstalled. This is expected, and desired as the driver must also be upgraded (either from Windows update or using the driver from our website) to the new Windows architecture, once the system has upgraded. You can safely ignore the message about compatibility.
DisplayLink has been working with Microsoft on extending the Windowsgraphics architecture to support USB graphics on Windows. A new interface has been designed between Microsoft and DisplayLink for USB displays. Thisis available in Windows 10 Anniversary Update 2016 (Redstone) from August 2016. The DisplayLinksoftware uses the new native DisplayLink USB graphics support on Windows 10 Anniversary Update 2016 onwards to provide a forward compatibility with Windows. There is nochange to Windows 10 Threshold and earlier OS versions. The table summarises the DisplayLink driver compatibility:
You MUST NOT try to install DisplayLink driver 7.9 on Windows 10 Anniversary Update and newer. Similarly you MUST NOT deploy DisplayLink_Win7-10TH2.msi when you are using a Redstone build. Changes in the Windows driver model can then prevent your computer from booting! DisplayLink Devices with Auto InstallUp until 2009, a few devices based on DisplayLink technology included an auto install driver feature. This required the DisplayLink USB driver to switch the device from being a mass storage device to a video device. On Windows 10, we use the Microsoft USB driver, and this does not support the switching between a mass storage device and a video device.Therefore it is not possible to support these DisplayLink enabled devices on Windows 10. Examples for affected devices are:
Diamond vstream WPCTVPROThis Diamond device is a wireless USB device. The wireless part of this product is not provided by DisplayLink and is not part of the DisplayLink drivers. It appears that the DisplayLink device is not appearing on the USB bus correctly due to the wireless link. The WiGig driver is not compatible with Windows 10. Dell have an article about this.
Device Manager - Error Code 10There have been some instances of DisplayLink devices with a yellow '!' in device manager, and opening the properties shows that they have an error code 10. This has been either due to a faulty device, or due to a device with auto install (which are not supported as covered above) and the DisplayLink video driver is trying to talk to the wrong interface putting it into an error state.For some USB graphics adapters (USB->DVI and USB->VGA), we will be able to implement a workaround for one particular hardware fault. It will require both at leastDisplayLink driver R8.2 and Windows 10 (Build from 15049) as this needs an OS change. Device Manager - Error Code 43There have been some instances of DisplayLink devices with a yellow '!' in device manager, and opening the properties shows that they have an error code 43. Before contacting our technical support with the log files for analysis, please check if you are using OBASE or Duet Display. You need to have their latest drivers for Windows 10 as the older ones are not compatible with this new operating system.Device Manager - Error Code 31There have been some instances of DisplayLink devices with a yellow '!' in device manager, and opening the properties shows that they have an error code 31. To resolve, please ensure your anti-virus or endpoint protection software is not blocking UMDF driver installation.Ethernet Network Connection Stopped WorkingSome anti-virus or endpoint protection software are blocking the creation of network adapters. If you see the 'DisplayLink Network Adapter NCM' in Device Manager but you don't see any DisplayLink network adapter in your network adapter list, then you are most likely in this case.
